Derek Kerswill’s TANGENTS – Debut album streaming in AOL Listening Party

An AOL listening party for One Little Light Year, the debut album from UNEARTH/SEEMLESS’s Drummer Derek Kerswill, TANGENTS, is now available at this location. The album was released yesterday (October 26th) via Restricted Release in cooperation with Angle Side Side.

Recorded and mixed at Stillwork Recording Studio in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the album was produced by the band with producer/engineer Benjamin Jon (ALL THAT REMAINS, THE ACACIA STRAIN).

Tangents is not what most will expect musically from drummer Derek Kerswill (UNEARTH, SEEMLESS) and Dave Witham (OF THE HOUR, FLAT-12). Kerswill’s musical diversity and rhythmic approach provides a solid foundation for the album, propelling the tracks forward with great intensity. Add to it the lush and organic sound of vocalist/guitarist Dave Witham and Tangents soars in the vein of JEFF BUCKLEY, AS TALL AS LIONS, even RADIOHEAD. Witham’s magnificent voice rises over a spiraling sonic backdrop with dazzling control and splendor. The album’s ambitious songwriting creates the catchiest music either musician has released to date.

One Little Light Year track list:

‘Arrow In The Heart’
‘Homecoming (Victory Song)’
‘Fall Asleep Again’
‘(Missing) One Little Light Year’
‘The Pieces Fall’
‘Nothing Left Undone’
‘When Will It End?’
‘What The Scanners See’
‘Blind Spots’
‘Watch You Go’

More on Tangents at this location.

TURISAS – Work on new album is complete!

TURISAS have completed work on their as-yet-untitled third album for an early 2011 release via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded between March and September 2010 at Sound Supreme studios in in Hämeenlinna, Finland, and was mixed by Jens Bogren (OPETHPARADISE LOST) at Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden. The album was produced by vocalist and main songwriter Mathias “Warlord” Nygård.

Commented Nygård:

“After a 16-month break from touring, focusing fully on the work on our third album, I’m happy to tell you that we’re DONE! The workload has been enormous, and at times I’ve wished I’d known better, formed a punk rock band and kept things simple! But to achieve real progress, you really have to dig deep and see what you’re made of. Take bites so big, you almost choke.

“We’ve stayed true to our ideology of releasing music only when we have something new to come out with, not repeating ourselves or just copying what we’ve done in the past to feed the market. Now that we’re done with studios, we’re all extremely excited to get back on the road again, and as our latest visit to North America is long overdue, coming over in January with CRADLE is something we’re all very much looking forward to. We had a great time touring with them in Europe in 2009, so this should be killer! Now we only have to figure out how to play these new songs!!”

MOTÖRHEAD – Slowed version of classic track “Ace of Spades” for free download

The first execution in the new campaign shows iconic rock band MOTÖRHEAD performing a slowed down version of their classic track “Ace of Spades” (available for free download at this location; free e-mail sign-up required).

“Slow the Pace” is rooted in the idea that Kronenbourg 1664 is a beer with a lingering complexity that deserves to be savoured slowly. The concept will be brought to life over the next year in a series of executions based on unique musical collaborations with leading artists commissioned to re-write and record a slowed down, chilled out version of one of their most famous fast tracks.

The campaign begins with a reworked version of MOTÖRHEAD‘s fast and furious “Ace of Spades”.

The ad, which launched as a 60-second TV execution, was shot in a French bar and shows patrons relaxing and chatting while MOTÖRHEADplay the new version of the song, with founder member and lead singerLemmy on harmonica rather than his familiar electric bass guitar.

The film documentary charts the process of the band re-writing the track in the studio through to the ad shoot.

Lucas Bergmans, Senior Brand Manager – Kronenbourg 1664 atHeineken U.K., said, “Showing MOTÖRHEAD performing a memorably different version of their legendary ‘Ace of Spades’ track as they enjoyKronenbourg 1664 is a powerful and innovative way to deliver the consumer message that Kronenbourg 1664 is a beer that is brewed to be enjoyed slowly — in any circumstances.”

The TV campaign will be supplemented by a series of product-focused national newspaper advertisements which will reinforce Kronenbourg 1664‘s positioning as a premium French beer with a rich flavour and provenance that is fully appreciated when savoured slowly.

Drawing hefty influences from the hand-on-heart grandeur of the NWOBHM and the inspirational mythology of their forbears, GRAND MAGUS is steeped in pre-Christian tales of triumph, vengeance, betrayal, wisdom and death. But GRAND MAGUS also stands for energetic live performances, as seen at last year’s European festivals such as Sweden Rock, Hellfest, Wacken, Summer Breeze and on tour in Europe with bands like AT THE GATES, CATHEDRAL, CANDLEMASS, TYRANT, SERPENTCULT and ELECTRIC WIZARD.

For bassist/vocalist Thomas “Angelripper” Such, his thrash metal band SODOM is a perfect vehicle to bluntly take a stand. Like few other musicians on this scene, he personifies — along with down-to-earthiness and honesty — a healthily critical position on political authorities and decision-makers from finance and industry. On their latest album, “In War And Pieces”, SODOM focuses on the worst excesses of power: arrogance, greed, spotlight-seeking, fanaticism, corruption, cowardice and oppression.
Tom strates:
“I’ve always written about what’s going on in the world, about the injustice and mistakes that happen everywhere. I know that you can’t change anything politically that way, but I would like to at least comment on the situation and generate an awareness of this deplorable state of affairs. Being a singer in a metal band allows me to voice my anger to a large audience.”
This uncompromising attitude marks the eleven songs on sodom’s latest album which could hardly sound more dynamic and violent. “In War And Pieces” owes its bloodcurdling energy largely to producer Waldemar Sorychta (GRIP INC., ENEMY OF THE SUN), whose great skill and commitment were instrumental in creating the album’s — as Tom calls it — “phat, brutal and open” sound. With Sorychta’s support, Angelripper (vocals, bass), Bernemann (guitar) and Bobby Schottkowski (drums) succeeded in adding new impulses to their music without watering down the band’s long tradition. “Waldemar is a great musician himself and has done some brilliant work, especially on the guitar sound,” Tom explains. “He knows how to get the absolute maximum out of a speaker.”
As brutal as the production is the diverse songwriting on “In War And Pieces”, a kind of tour de force through the whole history of thrash metal, featuring harsh arrangements, melodic solos and raging vocal attacks. “I feel that we sound more contemporary and structured than we did on our recent releases,” Tom analyzes. “At the same time, there are also references to recordings such as ‘Persecution Mania’ and ‘Agent Orange’. After VENOM, SODOM were the world’s first angry band, and nothing has changed that.”
Tom lists as examples the impressive title track, as well as “The Art Of Killing Poetry” with its ultra-deep guitar atmospheres and the German-language song, ‘Knarrenheinz‘, which holds up the tradition of classics such as ‘Bombenhagel‘ and “Ausgebombt“. “Knarrenheinz is the mascot on the album cover, that’s why I felt he deserved his own lyrics,” Tom grins. Talking of album covers: the artwork was designed by Eliran Kantor, who enjoys an excellent reputation on the scene thanks to his work for renowned acts such as TESTAMENT, GWAR and MEKONG DELTA.
