Iconic rock drummer and composer Carmine Appice has joined forces with one of the most in-demand multi-instrumentalists, Fernando Perdomo to create an infectious remake of the Rod Stewart megahit, “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” The Appice Perdomo redux of the song is driven by a pulsating reggae rhythm and a guitar melody line which makes the track work as an instrumental.

The new version of the song was released this week and can be streamed on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok, Pandora, Amazon, Instagram, YouTube, Tidal, iHeartRadio, and other platforms.

Listen here here.

The icon disco-flavored pop hit hit #1 around the world as the lead track from Rod Stewart’s 1978 album  Blondes Have More Fun, (which was #1 on the Billboard album charts for four weeks). Co-written by Stewart, Appice and Duane Hitchings, the song was originally written as a goof on the disco-era lounge lizards portrayed in films like Saturday Night Fever. Its popularity is credited with further fueling the great sexual revolution of the ‘70s.

Says Appice: “This version of Sexy reggae was inspired by the days when playing live with Rod we did a reggae thing in ‘Maggie May.’ I love reggae and thought ‘Sexy’ would be great as a reggae vibe.”

“Who does not love ‘Do You Think I’m Sexy?’” asks Perdomo. “In these crazy times a song like this is much needed to bring back that feeling you get dancing or roller skating to this evergreen masterpiece. I am honored Carmine asked me to help him update this song for today. The melody is magical and it really translated well to the reggae genre. I hope listening to this song is the best five minutes of your day.”

Carmine Appice has been a staple on rock scene since his debut with Vanilla Fudge in 1967.  He has also fronted a number of successful rock acts such as Cactus, Blue Murder, and King Kobra. He formed Beck, Bogert & Appice in 1972 with Jeff Beck and Tim Bogert and was the long time drummer for both Ozzy Osbourne and Rod Stewart, whom he co-wrote “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy,” and “Young Turks” with. Fernando Perdomo is an established west coast session musician and solo recording artist, who has worked with Eric Clapton, Fiona Apple, Beck, Neil Young, Dave Kerzner, and was recently featured on the acclaimed music documentary, Echo In The Canyon.

Devin Townsend Shares Demo of New Track, “Equinox”!

Devin Townsend has released a demo of a new track titled “Equinox.” The demo features musicians that performed live with him on the Volume 1 tour that was cut short by the pandemic earlier this year, including:

Drums: Morgan Ågren
Bass: Nathan Navarro
Additional Vocals: Che Dorval
Additional Keys: Diego Tejeida

Volume 1 was supposed to be the first of several tours that saw Devin performing different material from throughout his career with varying live lineups suited to each tour.

Devin offered of “Equinox:”

“I wrote this one a few months ago, its a work in progress and this is a demo. I may use it for an album at some point, but Its cathartic, this one… Hang in there folks…no shame in feeling what we feel.”

Devin has been incredibly productive during quarantine, hosting a series of livestreams, launching a podcast, streaming on Twitch and informally releasing a whole lot of new material, including a recent cut called “Precious Sardine” and a cover of the Christmas classic, “Silent Night.” He also revealed earlier this month that he is working on a new album titled The Puzzle.

Hatebreed Post Video for New Song, “Cling to Life”!

Hatebreed dropped their new album, Weight of The False Self, this past Friday, November 27, and with it comes a new lyric visualizer for the latest single, “Cling to Life.”

Frontman Jamey Jasta recently revealed the band packed and shipped orders for the new album themselves like back in the old days, saying:

“… because I did these two Jasta records in 2017 and 2018, and I did it all DIY, I said, ‘Hey, let’s do all pre-orders for this new Hatebreed record totally DIY. Let’s just act like we did back in the day when I was folding up the seven-inches and going to the post office and sending them all over the world. Let’s do that now. And I think that helps you understand not only how much work goes into it, but also how many people are affected by it. And right now we have this incredible amount of pre-orders, and it’s going to be a lot of work. We’re going to be signing records for days and days and days, but it’s great to have a real connection with it, and know that this going to be someone’s first time hearing us.”

Marilyn Manson Role Cut From CBS All Access Version of ‘The Stand’!

Last year it was revealed that Marilyn Manson was planning to appear in an updated adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Stand and that he also recorded a cover of The Doors‘ “The End” for the CBS All Access limited series. But according to one of the series directors, Manson nor his cover will appear in the upcoming series.

Director Josh Boone spoke with EW.com after rumors began to circulate that Manson’s presumed participation appeared to be in doubt. According to Boone, Manson’s role and music were both excised from the upcoming series due to budgetary concerns. It turns out that Manson had been cast in the role of “The Kid,” who makes a brief but memorable appearance within the book. But a tight budget forced some creative decisions that left “The Kid” out of this adaptation.

Explaining how Manson’s role and participation ended up getting cut from the series, Boone explained, “Just to clarify, Marilyn Manson and I had long-discussed him taking on the role of The Kid in The Stand. He and the great Shooter Jennings even recorded a killer cover of The Doors song, ‘The End,’ that ultimately proved too expensive to use. The show was made on a very tight budget and some of the dreams we had went to the wayside. The Kid was another casualty. When Manson wasn’t able to make it work schedule-wise, the storyline was ultimately excised and never shot, which is for the best, as no one could have slayed that role like Manson would have. Hope to work with him in the future.”

In the book, The Kid is a psychopath who drives a classic hot rod and loves his Coors beer. His main purpose of The Kid in the book is to drive Trashcan Man to Las Vegas, the home base of Randall Flagg’s disciples.

“We thought we were going to be able to restore the character of The Kid, but there really isn’t a lot of reason for The Kid to exist,” show runner Benjamin Cavell previously told EW.

The Stand series stars James Marsden, Whoopi Goldberg, Alexander Skarsgard, Odessa Young, Amber Heard, Heather Graham, Greg Kinnear, Daniel Sunjata, Eion Bailey, Nat Wolff and more. It premieres on CBS All Access Thursday, Dec. 17.

Musically it was a good year for Manson. After a decade of collaborating with Tyler Bates, he kept the creative uptick in his career going by pairing with producer Shooter Jennings on the cinematic-sounding We Are Chaos album.

But late in the year, allegations against Manson surfaced when actress Evan Rachel Wood publicly commented on a past abusive relationship. Though she didn’t call out Manson by name, backlash followed when people traced the timeline to the period when the pair dated. Manson’s team has since commented calling the accusations rumors.

PSYCROPTIC premiere music video for the title track off upcoming EP “The Watcher Of All”!

Australia-based, tech-death masters PSYCROPTIC reveal a music video for the title track off their new EP “The Watcher Of All”, which comes out this Friday,  November 27th on Agonia Records (physical release) and Prosthetic Records (digital release). The video was filmed by Wilson Bambrick and is available below:

Tasmania is recognized for two unique entities; the Tasmanian Devil and having generated one of the innovative leaders of the modern death metal scene, PSYCROPTIC. Since their formation in 1999, the band have constantly evolved and broken through the boundaries that the genre can sometimes impose upon itself. Never fearful to change musical direction or challenge themselves – the only goal PSYCROPTIC has, and always will be, is to write intense sonic creations that are heavy, catchy and worship the riff!

2020 sees the band in their 21st year, with not even a global pandemic set to slow their mission to create, evolve and further hone their craft. The release of the new EP “The Watcher Of All” is a first for the band – 2 tracks alone that bridge the musical gap from 2018’s “As The Kingdom Drowns”, and the upcoming full length scheduled for mid 2021. The 2 tracks released digitally and on limited edition vinyl pass the musical torch from “Keepers…” and carry it forward; lighting the path for the next full length album of distinctive musical vehemence…

Vocalist Jason Peppiatt states: “With ‘The Watcher Of All’, we wanted to continue exploring the ideas from ‘As The Kingdom Drowns’ both lyrically and musically, yet still push forward into new and uncharted territory for us. I feel we really achieved our goals with this release and it’s something we are immensely proud of. These tracks are the perfect complement to the material we are currently recording for our full length due in mid 2021.”

Drummer Dave Haley continues: “I feel very privileged to be able to continue working with Psycroptic; never feeling like we have to do something musically that we don’t want to. We like heavy, aggressive music that is all about the guitar riff. Fast, slow, tech, simple – doesnt matter. A sick riff is a sick riff. Thats one thing I feel will never change with the band; riff driven, and focusing on the song. Joe is one of the best riff writers around; and pushes us all to bring our A game to the final song development.”

Seven albums deep and with absolutely nought chance of slowing down, PSYCROPTIC continue to reinvent themselves and the genre they are well entrenched in. All the band’s previous work has got them to where they are at today. Completely comfortable in their own shoes, nothing to prove and being able to look back at their earlier years with pride, they are more than well poised to tackle with whatever lays ahead.

“The Watcher Of All” was recorded and mixed by Joe Haley at Crawlspace ProductionsWill Putney mastered the EP and Shindy Reehal provided the apocalyptic artwork.
