SEBASTIAN BACH Reveals Slave To The Grind 30th Anniversary Tour Dates

Sebastian Bach has been teasing a 30th-anniversary tour for the legendary Skid Row album Slave to the Grind for quite a while now, and he’s finally come through on the promise.

Bach announced a slew of dates along with a message explaining what fans can expect:

“30 years ago in the year 1991 we released our second record entitled ‘Slave To The Grind’. This album was a collaborative effort between the band members written in our basements and rehearsal rooms in New Jersey shortly after we got off the road for the first record. We had an incredible time coming up with the songs in New Jersey and then bringing in our producer Michael Wagener to help out before we took the whole band and crew down to Gloria Estefan’s New River studios in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We all lived there recording the record and the stories I could tell……!!

“After recording in Florida, we headed to Burbank, California to finish the album and how proud we were of the results. I remember driving down Ventura Boulevard. We had a cassette of the song ‘Monkey Business’ mix that we cranked over and over again in the car at about 4 in the morning heading back to our hotel. The music was crushing when we made it then and 30 years later it still stands the test of time.

“Solidifying the family vibe making this album was the choice to have my father the late David Bierk RIP (1944-2002) create and paint the album cover. Commissioned by Atlantic Records’ Bob Defrin, the cover art is based on the songs themselves and inspired by Caravaggio. The artwork is a story in and of itself. In association with the artist estate, we will incorporate never-before-seen photos during the show detailing the creation of the album cover, which used actual live models playing out the scene in my Dad’s studio back in 1990 – 1991.

“None of us could believe the day ‘Slave To The Grind’ came out and became the first heavy rock album to debut at Number One on the Billboard album chart. The band were naturally ecstatic as were the record company and all involved…. As well as my father and my family.

“I look forward to playing ‘Slave To The Grind’ in its entirety in the USA this fall for the 30th anniversary and for the first time offer a look behind the scenes into the creation of the album cover artwork. Looking forward to seeing you all on the road in 2021 with very special guests from Detroit Michigan, Kaleido! See you at the show!”

Mordred’s First Album in Over 25 Years Comes Out This Friday

Given the music Axl and I were most stoked on as impressionable pre-teens in the early-mid ’90s (Living Colour, Faith No More, Queensryche, early RHCP, obviously Metallica, etc.), it’s a wonder we never stumbled upon Mordred. MTV and the major label cartel had a hold over what reached our influenceable little ears, I suppose.

The Dark Parade, the band’s first album in over 25 years, comes out this Friday. The singles the band’s released from the record so far are my very first exposure to Mordred. And like whoa, dudes, where have you been all my life?? (that’s a rhetorical questions; don’t answer it).

Since I spaced on writing up the album’s first two singles, “Malignancy” — which features appearances from fellow Bay Area metalheads Chuck Billy (Testament), Will Carroll (Death Angel) and Matt Camacho (Forbidden) — and “Demonic #7,” I’ll post those along with the latest, “Eyes on the Prize,” both of which absolutely slap. Of the latter, the band’s guitarist Danny White explains:

“This song is based on the idea of manifest destiny here in America, set to the backdrop of the transcontinental railway construction of the late 1800s. I was watching a show called ‘Hell on Wheels,’ and it just struck me that manifest destiny and the idea that ruling America at all costs, plundering its resources and subjugating its indigenous inhabitants is somehow divinely preordained seemed antithetical to what a divine being originally intended. Colonization is an ugly business.”

The Dark Parade comes out via M-Theory Audio this Friday, July 23; pre-order here.

French modern metallers, Dagoba, are back. After putting their stamp on the metal scene with their unique blend of metal and neckbreaking grooves, relentlessly touring and sharing the stage with legendary acts like Machine Head and In Flames, Dagoba have signed with leading Austrian metal label Napalm Records to bring their career to the next level.

On the new single “The Hunt”, the four-piece is back with their most ambitious material yet: punishing vocals, groove and modern metal infused guitars, and hard-hitting production prove that Dagoba are on top of their game – pushing their boundaries and incorporating electronic elements seamlessly into their modern metal formula! Combined with an impressive, ambitious music video, Dagoba are hinting at what they have planned for their eighth full-length album.

Dagoba on their new single and video for “The Hunt”: “We are super stoked about this release! ‘The Hunt’ has been our biggest video production so far, and the final result even exceeded our expectations. Being big fans of Blade Runner, Drive, and Akira, it’s super exciting to see the mix of these influences in our own music video. From writing and composing the track until its release, ‘The Hunt’ has been a very long and tough journey for us. But the song and video we are releasing turned out to be even more exciting than we expected it when we started project ‘ The Hunt’. We would like to thank all our fans and backers of the project “The Hunt” who helped us bringing this ambitious video project to life. Without them, the video would not have been as cinematic as it is right now. THANK YOU! Stronger together.”

“The Hunt” is available as a standalone single, as well as a limited 7” vinyl that features an exclusive remix of “The Hunt”, showcasing how far Dagoba can take their electronic influences on their upcoming material – a must-have for true fans of modern metal.

Decapitated Comment on Ongoing Issues Stemming From 2017 Sexual Assault Accusations

Decapitated have released a statement about ongoing issues they are facing stemming from sexual assault accusations leveled their way in 2017, claiming that people have been using those past allegations to attempt to have shows canceled on their upcoming tour of the U.K. and Europe.

An unidentified woman accused all four Decapitated band members of rape while on tour in Spokane, WA in August of 2017. They were arrested on September 8, charged with kidnapping and rape (in varying degrees) — denying all the charges — and remained in jail until December, when they posted bail and returned home. A trial was set for January of 2018 but was dropped by the prosecution before it could proceed, with prosecutors citing concern for the well-being of the alleged victim, the band’s defense attorney citing a previous record of the alleged victim lying to the police, and the band citing new evidence proving their innocence as reasons the case would not move forward.

Since their release, Decapitated have returned to touring, although not in the U.S. Guitarist Wacław Kiełtyka (aka Vogg) has also joined Machine Head, replacing that band’s long-time member Phil Demmel. Just last week, Decapitated announced a 25th anniversary tour of the U.K. and Europe in early 2022.

In their new statement, the first time the band has publicly addressed the issue since 2018, the members of Decapitated collectively express hesitance to open old wounds but a compulsion to do so as a result of efforts to bring down their newly announced tour. While saying they “strongly” condemn issues of “actual sexual abuse,” they maintain and stress their innocence in the 2017 incident, saying “We have known the truth and the truth will always win.”

The full statement reads as follows:

“As many of you may or may not be aware, back in 2017 in the midst of our USA tour we had the worst experience of our lives during the time we got arrested and jailed after being falsely accused of sexual assault. We went through hell and back. After all charges got dropped when evidence that would prove our innocence came to light and we were able to return to Poland, we made a short statement about the situation and had decided not to go into any sort of detail. The band had not been found guilty and we didn’t want to share much, if any, of the details of what we had to go through.

“We have known the truth and the truth will always win.

“Unfortunately, it has been brought to our attention that a small group of people, who know nothing about our case or have any connection to it or us, have been reaching out directly to some of our beloved UK venues and promoters of the 25 year anniversary EU/UK tour that we announced earlier this week, bringing up old articles from when we got arrested, in an attempt to cause damage to the band and our shows.
Over the past weeks and months, we’ve heard about several industry players (be it bands, promoters or agents) rightfully coming under fire after severe allegations of unacceptable misconduct.

“This is absolutely unrelated to Decapitated. We have nothing to do with this and don’t deserve to be dragged through the mud again.

“The band has ZERO interest in rehashing the past and certainly, the scars need to be kept closed. We value the emotional and mental health of our band members and ALL involved in their lives. We will not go back to one of the, if not, the worst times of our lives. It hurts us that some people are forcing us to go relive all those terrible feelings again, while we moved on and have been working very hard to rebuild this band.

“Our members, family, label, closest fans, friends and people from the music industry have helped every step of the way to keep us afloat, as well as mentally and emotionally strong.

“Decapitated has never used and will never build their strategy and recognition, or look for media attention, by talking about private life, being scandalists, or provoking and offending others.

“But once and for all to set the record straight: We strongly stand with the victims of ACTUAL sexual abuse, homophobia, racism and strongly condemn any actions or sentiment of this kind, ALWAYS! There is NO room for this in our beloved metal community (or anywhere else). Accusations related to any kind of abuse or assault should always be taken seriously. Sexual harassment does happen and it is horrible.
But false accusations do also happen and can also very easily and rapidly destroy lives, relationships and careers. Unfortunately, we experienced this first hand and this keeps chasing us to this very day. It is very unfortunate and disrespectful that some people are trying to take this away from real survivors of abuse.

“After months of hard work together with our team, we were very excited to announce our 25 year anniversary tour this week. In case some venue or promoter would still want to cancel our show, it would sadden us deeply but we will respect that decision and move on.

“We cannot wait to hit the road again after these challenging Covid times and hope to see many of you on one (or more) of our below tour dates.

“Thank you once again to everyone who has supported us over the years.”

On July the 19th, international all-stars melodic death metal project Act Of Denial premiere their fifth and final single “Your Dark Desires”, before the debut album Negative comes out on August 13th, via Crusaders / Golden Robot Records.

“Your Dark Desires” features a guest guitar solo by Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Guns N’ Roses, Sons Of Apollo).

Act Of Denial vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid (Soilwork): “‘Your Dark Desires’ is about inner struggle and being able to separate inherited angst and self inflicted mental pain – once you’ve learned, you can move on and feel much stronger. The song is motivational and about acceptance.”

Act Of Denial is an international melodic death metal group founded by lead guitarist and songwriter Voi Cox (Koziak, Victim) and guitarist Luger (Koziak, Benighted-Cro) in early 2020.

The band lineup is a metal who’s who and features vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid (Soilwork), bassist Steve Di Giorgio (Death, Testament), drummer Kerim “Krimh” Lechner (Septicflesh) and keyboardist John Lönnmyr (The Night Flight Orchestra).

Negative was mixed at Studio Fredman by legendary producer Fredrik Nordström (At The Gates, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy). The album cover artwork was created by Carlos Del Olmo Holmberg.

The Dark Element vocalist Anette Olzon (ex-Nightwish) is set to release her new solo album, Strong, via Frontiers Music Srl on September 10. Today, fans can get another taste of the new music with the release of the single and lyric video for the track “Sick Of You”. Watch the video below, and pre-order/save “Strong” on CD/LP/Digital here.

This will be Anette’s second solo album, following 2014’s Shine, and offers a harder, faster musical offering compared to the debut. More importantly, Strong stakes a claim for Anette’s well-deserved standing as one of the world’s top female metal vocalists.

The music for Strong was written and composed together with acclaimed Swedish guitarist and producer Magnus Karlsson. Together, Anette and Magnus managed to create an outstanding collection of songs which showcase Anette’s enormous vocal range alongside Karlsson’s incendiary riffs. The songs are heavy, but still quite melodic and contemporary in their approach to the genre style. Additionally, Strong is mixed by Jacob Hansen (Pretty Maids, Volbeat, The Dark Element, etc.).

All in all, Strong is an album that masters the borders between heaviness and hookiness, all while showing an artist who doesn’t rest on her laurels, but heads boldly into the future.

BMG has announced the release of Iron Maiden’s 17th studio album, Senjutsu, their first in six years, on September 3. It was recorded in Paris with longstanding producer Kevin Shirley and co-produced by Steve Harris.

It was preceded on Thursday July 15 by an already highly acclaimed animated video for the first single “The Writing On The Wall” made by BlinkInk based on a concept by Bruce Dickinson with two former Pixar Executives. It followed a month-long teaser campaign & global ‘treasure hunt’ for clues about the track title and concept.

For Senjutsu =– loosely translated as ‘tactics & strategy,’ the band once again enlisted the services of Mark Wilkinson to create the spectacular Samurai themed cover artwork, based on an idea by Steve Harris. With a running time of a little under 82 minutes, Senjutsu, like their previous record The Book Of Souls, will be a double CD/Triple vinyl album.

Steve says “We chose to record at Guillaume Tell Studio in France again as the place has such a relaxed vibe. The setup there is perfect for our needs; the building used to be a cinema and has a really high ceiling so there’s a great acoustic sound. We recorded this album in the same way we did The Book Of Souls in that we’d write a song, rehearse it and then put it down together straight away while it was all fresh in our minds. There’s some very complex songs on this album which took a lot of hard work to get them exactly as we wanted them to sound, so the process was at times very challenging, but Kevin is great at capturing the essence of the band and I think it was worth the effort!  I’m very proud of the result and can’t wait for fans to hear it.”

Lead singer Bruce Dickinson continues, “We’re all really excited about this album. We recorded it back in early 2019 during a break in the Legacy tour so we could maximize our touring yet still have a long set up period before release to prepare great album art and something special as a video. Of course the pandemic delayed things more – so much for the best laid plans – or should that be ‘strategies’!?  The songs are very varied, and some of them are quite long. There’s also one or two songs which sound pretty different to our usual style, and I think Maiden fans will be surprised –  in a good way, I hope!”

Senjutsu will be released on the following formats and available to pre-order/pre-save from Wednesday July 21 at IronMaiden.com.

– Standard 2CD Digipak
